Jacksonville, FL — We’re tracking record-challenging heat this afternoon and the 4th, with ‘feels-like’ temps well into the triple digits.
Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says the record high of 99 degrees on this date in 1970 may be broken this afternoon. The heat index will soar to as high as 109.
“Looking at even the beaches managing to get in to the mid-90’s before the sea breeze kicks in enough to drop that temperature a little bit”, Buresh said.
Thunderstorms are expected to be widely scattered but locally heavy, like Tuesday. Showers and storms will form between 1 and 3pm.
The heat continues to be the story as we head into the 4th of July holiday. Highs will reach the upper 90’s Thursday with widely scattered inland afternoon storms. Feels-like temps will remain oppressive at 103-107 tomorrow afternoon.
Storms begin to increase by the weekend and temps stay above average, which is 91 degrees.
