Deputies are encouraging parents to speak with their children about their Halloween candy as many children dig into their leftovers from trick-or-treating.
Public Information Officer Chris Padgett with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office says urge your kids to be conservative with their candy and not eat too much at the same time.
"Sometimes even a candy bar may be sealed, it could have been tampered with."
He also says it is important to inspect the candy before it’s eaten.
"When you pick up a candy wrapper that's got untampered with candy inside, you know there is going to be some type of an air bubble and a pocket there that lets you know this is sealed."
Padgett says if a parent notices something doesn’t look right – it could be several different thing. He says it could have been melted down due to being out in the sun or someone could have tampered with it.
"If you look at it and your determination is that this has been tampered with and you believe there is intentional harm that has been done to that to try to hurt children or harm someone else, contact us."
