ST. JOHNS, Fla. — Last week, Action News Jax told you about a plane crash in St. Johns County that left a husband and wife hurt, while their dog tragically died.
Today we spoke with a woman who says she helped save the couple from the burning airplane.
“The plane came straight over the top of my vehicle,” says Jennifer Fairbanks
Fairbanks was heading back home to Green Cove Springs when she saw a plane crash off of U.S. 1 near the Northeast Florida Regional Airport in a wooded area.
“I watched it go into the woods and explode on impact,” says Fairbanks.
Fairbanks adds she acted quickly and tried to save the couple that crashed.
“I immediately pulled my truck to the other side of the road and jumped out and started running towards the place it had crashed,” says Fairbanks.
Fairbanks says a deputy was at the scene with her, and she didn’t think anyone would be alive because the flames were so big
“That’s when we saw the female passenger moving around, and we knew she was alive,” says Fairbanks.
According to reports, a husband and wife and their dog were on board the plane that crashed.
“When she jumped down, I pulled her to safety away from the plane because she was saying the plane full of fuel,” says Fairbanks.
Fairbanks says the husband also jumped out of the plane into some flames, and that’s when someone saved him
“The most amazing people just went right in there and grabbed him and drug him out, “says Fairbanks.
Fairbanks says the crash hit really close to home, because her brother died in a plane accident 21 years ago, and it’s a reason why she was there.
“It must’ve been. I was on my way to a doctor’s appointment in Jacksonville so that is why I was going that way, I usually don’t go that way,” says Fairbanks.
Fairbanks added she is praying that the couple involved in this crash will be okay.
