Green Cove Springs FL — On Tuesday, The Green Cove Springs Police Department announced Police Chief Derek Asdot passed away from COVID-19. The department says he is being remembered as a great leader, an outstanding law enforcement officer, a patriot, and an inspiration to all who knew him. They say in a short period of time as police chief he was a progressive leader who brought dynamic transformational changes to the department.
We’re told Asdot is an Army veteran who joined the department in 2002 and became chief in 2017. Throughout his career, he had many professional accomplishments including serving as a DEA Task Force Officer at the Jacksonville regional office and served as a board member on the St. Johns State River Academy Law Enforcement Board.
The department says funeral services will be announced as soon as possible.
