FL GOP leader speaks out on Gov. Scott's leadership after speech cancelled

Republican National Convention-goers will not get to hear from the host state’s governor on Wednesday.  Rick Scott cancelled his events over the weekend due to Tropical Storm Isaac, making a decision that one GOP official says shows a difficult line that many elected officials have to toe…

"He is putting the people and his job above politics.  It's the right thing to do...It was the leadership people are craving and I think Floridians are applauding him for it," said Florida GOP chair Lenny Curry.

Curry thinks Governor Scott’s decision to cancel his events is admirable because it shows he’s put Florida’s 19 million residents and all of its visitors ahead of politics

"They're used to folks making and doing the political decisions, so you become kind of numb and then when you see someone lead and do the right thing, they get it.

Curry says it’s easy for most to get caught up in politics, but it’s important for public servants to remember their first obligation, to the people they serve.  And when asked if he thought the Democrats could have done as well as the Republicans handling the weather juggling act?

"My mom told me if you don't have something good to say about somebody, don't say it, so no comment," he joked.

Curry is slated to speak Tuesday morning at the Fresh From Florida Victory Breakfast for Florida delegates.  Also on the card for the morning: Florida attorney general Pam Bondi and Senator Marco Rubio.
