Gator Bowl expected to bring $14 million impact to Jax

The teams are in town and fans are following suit as we countdown to the 2014 Gator Bowl.

“Things couldn’t be coming together any better in the stadium, as well as in Jacksonville,” says Gator Bowl President Rick Catlett.

Georgia will face Nebraska at noon on January 1st, bringing a crowd that consists of around 30,000 out of town visitors. Catlett says that's pushing them closer to the expected 60,000 to 65,000 tickets they expect to sell for the game. He says EverBank's capacity for this game is around 68,000 to 70,000, so he's happy with the anticipated crowd.

And it’s something he says the community has a reason to celebrate as well.

“We project that there will be about a $14 million expenditure directly in to our economy,” he says.

That comes through hotels, car rentals, gas taxes and more- including Gator Bowl events outside of the game itself. Catlett says they are hosting a New Year’s Eve party at the Landing where you can come out to start 2014 with some other college football fans.

He says the game itself will run much like a Jaguars game in terms of parking and the game day experience. You can find ticketing information posted on the Gator Bowl's website.
