Forrest high school name change will be costly

Today students and faculty at Nathan B Forrest High School will vote on the new name.  Graduates and neighbors in the school zone will vote Thursday through Saturday, and the decision will be announced on January 7th.

What's in a name? For a new one at Nathan B. Forrest High School, hundreds of thousands of dollars. That's what Action News has learned it will cost to make some important transitions.

From replacing sports uniforms to repainting gym floors and ordering new marquees and letterheads, the dollars add up.

Action News reached out to Duval County Public School reps to find out how much those changes will cost and who will pay for them. They claim they will cost $400,000-$500,000.

For Forrest alumnus like Eric Trone, it's worth every penny.

"I think it is worth it because it shows that the school is going to go through a lot of growth," he said.

The district also said it is working on ways to get donations from the community to pay for the changes.

"They're going to try to help as much as they can to help the school better itself," said Trone.
