Former St. Johns County Deputy turns himself in to Flagler County authorities

Deputy Tony Deleo shows the helmet he was wearing on the day of the crash.

Jacksonville, FL — Months after a St. Johns County Sheriff’s Deputy was fired for aggravated battery allegations stemming from a traffic stop, he turned himself in to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office on an out-of-county warrant.

An official at the Flagler County Jail told WOKV that Anthony DeLeo posted $10,000 bond and was released at 8:24 pm. It’s not clear when DeLeo will make a court appearance.

As we reported in early March, DeLeo was accused of hitting a man 19 times with his baton, and kicking him twice in the head during a traffic stop on County Road 210 near I-95.

An attorney for the man who was beaten says he was having a medical episode at the time he was pulled over.

In 2018, WOKV documented DeLeo’s recovery from serious injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

"I've undergone extensive but successful knee reconstruction & have worked very hard in rehab. I returned to modified duty at the SO [sheriff's office] just 6 months after the crash with some new scars. I hope to return to the Motor Unit very soon!"

DeLeo was responding to call on July 14, 2017, when he lost control of his motorcycle on a curve on County Road 210, parallel to Cimarrone Golf Club, crashed into a tree, and was thrown into a concrete power pole.
