Jacksonville, FL — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the remains found buried in the yard of home in Neptune Beach are confirmed to be Kristina French, the grandmother of 15-year-old Logan Mott.
Police did not release the manner of death, citing the ongoing investigation.
The 15-year-old Mott is being detained in Buffalo after he was arrested late Friday night.
JSO says Mott was detained after trying to cross over the Canadian Border near Buffalo, New York. U.S. Customs and Border Protection say Mott made a wrong turn onto the Peace Bridge.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers were able to pull Mott over and they say he had a warrant out for his arrest for grand theft auto and Mott was taken in to custody without any incident. U.S. Customs and Border Protection say Mott is currently being held in Buffalo because of the warrant.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection says Mott was traveling in the 2015 Silver Dodge Dart that belonged to his grandmother.
Mott is expected to be brought back to Jacksonville where he is expected to be questioned by police and face auto theft charges.
Mott’s attorney says it’s unclear when his client will be extradited to Florida.
“I’m hoping to get him into court here in Buffalo by the middle of the week, and then getting him into Jacksonville will depend on whether we actually insist on running an extradition hearing or if we waive the hearing and agree to go back to Jacksonville to fight the charges”, said attorney Dominic Saraceno.
“I would just ask the public not to jump to any conclusions or rush to judgement until a thorough investigation has been completed. At this point we don’t know what happened”, said Saraceno.
Saraceno says Mott is denying involvement in French’s death.
“He adamantly denines any involvment in his grandmothers death.” Saraceno says.
Mott’s mother, Carrie Campbell-Mott, says she is refusing to let her son be interviewed by investigators until he has legal representation.
Originally, Logan Mott and his grandmother Kristina French were reported as missing last Wednesday.
Police say they could of been in a 2015 Silver Dodge Dart and they could be endangered since they found out firearms were taken from a home they were associated with.
On Friday afternoon JSO gave an update to the search for the missing two and they say they suspect foul play was involved between the two.
