Former Jags’ Roy Miller reaches pretrial agreement on battery charge

Jacksonville, FL — Former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Roy Miller has agreed to a pretrial diversion program, to settle a domestic battery charge he faces.

WOKV first told you back in November about Miller's arrest, for allegedly hitting his wife. The arrest report shows the victim suffered an abrasion and scratch and had a braid ripped out. Her shirt was also torn apart, and Miller admitted to throwing the victim's phone in the toilet, although she says he also restrained her from retrieving it.

Earlier this month, the Court accepted a pretrial diversion plan for Miller, but his wife- the victim in the case- asked the Court to set that aside. In the motion filed be her attorney, the victim said she had prepared a statement to read to the Court, but hadn’t been given the chance to do so. She said she believed Miller lacked remorse for what he had done. The motion included the victim’s planned statement, in which she says she has suffered physical, mental, emotional, and economic abuse by Miller.

“I would hope that he doesn’t get off lightly as if this didn’t happen or that he is above the judicial system,” the statement says.

Miller’s attorney responded, saying the victim had been consulted by the State Attorney’s Office, and that Miller is seeking the arrangement to “bring about closure” for his family. The motion further says Miller has no prior criminal history and has already completed all 50 hours of community service required under his diversion agreement.

The judge has now denied the victim’s motion to reopen the case, letting the prior agreement stand.
