Jacksonville — Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) students, faculty and staff collected food, personal items and monetary donations to benefit its FSCJ H.O.P.E. Food Pantry on Giving Tuesday.

After raising over 18-thousand dollars, an anonymous donor was so touched by the outpouring of support, he matched the donation dollar for dollar, raising the amount to $36,514, to provide 219,084 meals for families in need.

In addition to providing monetary support, FSCJ partnered with Feeding Northeast Florida to host a mobile food giveaway at Downtown Campus, which distributed 6,052 pounds of food to 207 individuals, 97 of which were students.

“As the community’s college, we are committed to serving the academic, professional and personal needs of our students and neighbors,” said College President John Avendano, Ph.D. “We are humbled by the gracious generosity of all those who supported the food pantry this Giving Tuesday; it is only through our partners and supporters that we can do this work, and we cannot thank all those who gave enough.”

The FSCJ H.O.P.E. Food Pantry, located at South Campus and Downtown Campus, was created to help students who are experiencing food insecurity.
