Jacksonville, FL — The Florida Department of Health is warning residents about a scam involving people pretending to work with the department.
The scammers are spoofing their numbers so their number shows up as the Florida Department of Health on caller ID.

The Health Department is stressing it would never people without them knowing about the call-in advance and would never request personal identifying information like addresses and social security numbers.

Consumer Warrior Clark Howard says Caller ID is not the protection you once thought, adding caller ID spoofing has become a big problem. He suggests not saying anything if you get an unsolicited call from places like the Department of Health, Social Security Administration, or even the IRS.
Clark says senior citizens are at risk to caller ID spoofs that may still have landlines in their homes, but the spoofs are now on cell phones as well.
