Florida Department of Education releases 2016-2017 school grades

Jacksonville, FL — The grades are in.

The Florida Department of Education has released school grades for the 2016-2017 school year, based on up to 11 components, including student achievement and learning gains on statewide, standardized assessments, and high school graduation rates.

The FLDOE releasing a few key statewide highlights:

-The percentage of schools earning an 'A' or 'B' increased to 57%, up from 46% last year.

-A total of 1,589 schools maintained an 'A' grade or increased their grade

-The number of 'F' schools decreased by more than half, dropping from 111 schools last year to 43 schools

-48 of Florida's 67 school districts are now graded 'A' or 'B' up from 38 last year

-50 of Florida's school districts have no 'F' graded schools

On a local level, we saw Northeast Florida districts either maintain their grades from last year or score higher.

St. Johns County maintained their status as an 'A' district, while Duval County and Clay County both maintained their status as a 'B' district.

Meanwhile, Baker County and Nassau County both saw gains. Baker going from a 'C' to a 'B'; Nassau going from a 'B' to an 'A'.
