Jacksonville, Fl — Between 5 and 7′' of rain fell in about an hour in St. Augustine on Sunday, causing flash flooding and several street closures.
“I’ve lived here close to 30 years and I’ve never experienced something like yesterday”, said Todd Grant, St. Augustine Utilities Director.
The short duration and volume of rain led to multiple street closures on U.S. 1, SR 207 and SR 312.

“The storm water conveyance system basically was over capacity and so you had flash flooding taking effect throughout the city and the county for that matter”, Grant said.
Crews were checking lift stations until 2 or 3 am and did not find any significant damage at sanitary sewer lift stations. So far, Grant said, there haven’t been any major issues.
If you live in a low-lying or flood prone area, be weather aware for rapidly changing conditions. And if you are able to clear storm drains of debris that could help City crews.
⚠️💧Flood Watch is in effect through Tuesday evening for St Johns & Flagler county.

💧 Don’t underestimate the power of water. It only takes 6” of fast-moving water to knock over an adult, and 12” to carry away a 🚗car.
