Jacksonville FL — On Monday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced a series of proposals aimed at getting more money into the pockets of state law enforcement officers and first responders. He announced $400 million in new funding proposals to increase the salaries of state law enforcement officers, correctional officers, and special risk firefighters. Included in the proposals is another round of $1,000 bonuses for all first responders in the state and $5,000 bonuses to recruit and keep state and local level law enforcement, officers.

Governor DeSantis says increasing salaries for state law enforcement is going to make a real difference for the officers and for their families.

“It will help retain a lot of the talented people we have, as well as recruit new people into our highway patrol, into fish and wildlife, and into FDLE”. DeSantis says.

Among the proposals, DeSantis says there is one to increase the pay of state law enforcement officers already on the job by 25 percent. Also, there is a proposal to increase the minimum pay for entry-level state law enforcement positions by 20 percent.

These funding measures will be brought up during the legislative session which starts in January.
