The wait is almost over for anyone looking to see the river views and vibrant plants at The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens.
The artwork inside will still be off limits to patrons, but phase one of reopening starts Saturday when the museum will allow people back into the outdoor gardens.
Cara Bower is the director of visitor experience. She says the plan is to limit the number of guests allowed at one time amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“We are also limiting the number of tickets sold per time slot,” she says. “We do 2-hour time slots, and then we will sell 50 tickets per time slot.”
You won’t have to worry about buying a ticket this weekend since the museum is offering free admission on Saturday and Sunday. Going forward, the plan is to host events like yoga classes and picnics later this summer.
Bower says the museum is implementing several policies to make sure both customers and staff are safe. You’ll notice hand sanitizer stations throughout the facility as well as dots and arrows on the ground to make sure people go in one way and out another.
All employees will be required to wear face masks and gloves after having their temperatures checked. Patrons are being asked to wear masks inside, but they can be removed in the gardens as long as social distance requirements are followed. The museum will provide a mask if you forget to bring one with you.
Right now, there’s not a firm date for when the museum will move into the second phase of reopening.
