Jacksonville FL — Your next ride on the First Coast Expressway is about to cost you.
Beginning Saturday FDOT says tolls will begin to be collected on the first phase of the First Coast Expressway. Tolls will be collected from New World Avenue south to Blanding Boulevard in Middleburg. FDOT says cash won't be accepted, instead you'll have to use a SunPass or a toll-by-plate. FDOT says SunPass customers will pay a lower rate compared to toll-by-plate customers and won't face a $2.50 monthly administration fee that's associated with the toll-by-plate option.
Eventually the First Coast Expressway will connect U.S. 90 and I-10 in western Duval County to I-95 in St. Johns County. FDOT says construction on the second phase from Blanding Blvd to east of County Road 209 in Clay County has already begun and is currently expected to be completed in 2026. The final phase from the Shands Bridge to I-95 is expected to begin in 2023.
We are working to determine exactly when tolls will begin to be collected, we’ll bring you an update once we learn more.
