Notes from The First Alert Weather Team:

  • Most areas have received 1-2” of rain overnight with an additional 1-2” to come today.
  • Rain will slowly exit southeast of the viewing area by the early to middle afternoon.
  • Temperatures will rapidly fall tonight into the upper 20s and low 30s, with wind chills ranging from 17-23° Monday morning.
  • Enough dry hours and wind should dry up most of the rain to preclude a black ice concern, but some frozen puddles are possible.
  • MLK Day will be dry and bright but cold—in the 30s and 40s all day.
  • First Alert Weather Day for Tuesday night/Wednesday. While the exact details are still highly uncertain, potential exists for frozen precipitation (freezing rain, sleet, and snow) to impact some of our areas Tuesday night through Wednesday morning, most likely SE GA and far inland N Florida. Though much of our viewing population will see cold rain during this time, some guidance brings freezing rain to western Duval County. More impactful winter weather from snow and ice across southeast Georgia is certainly possible. Some form of winter weather advisory will likely be issued later today, and travel will become difficult if not impossible in the areas where accumulating frozen precipitation occurs. Stay tuned.
