First Alert Weather: Crashing temperatures and wintry precipitation

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The First Alert Weather team is tracking a quick drop in temperatures tonight as a freeze warning goes into effect for the area.

Notes from the First Alert Weather Team:

  • The Jacksonville International Airport received almost 3 inches of rain this morning - which is more than it got in November and December combined.
  • Sunday is the wettest day there since September 12th, 2024.
  • It’s cloudy this evening, but skies will clear as temperatures fall below freezing.
  • A FREEZE WARNING is in effect for all local counties. Expect a freeze all the way to the beaches
  • MLK Day is sunny & cold with a bit of a breeze
  • We’ll be back near freezing Tuesday morning, and clouds will increase through the day
  • Rain begins Tuesday evening, and will turn to sleet/freezing rain along & west of Hwy 301 overnight
  • Tuesday night & Wednesday morning are a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY
  • Precipitation appears to be mainly snow farther north in SE GA
  • Sleet/Freezing rain accumulations will generally be less than a half inch. Snow accumulation will be less than 3″
  • Travel could still be treacherous due to ice accumulation near the FL/GA border
  • A few snow flurries may form in Western Duval County if temps are colder than expected, but Jax should mainly see just rain & mix
  • It’s a cold rain for most of NE FL south of I-10 with the exception of some wintry mix inland
  • Please check & recheck the First Alert Forecast over the next 24-48 hours
  • Precipitation moves out fairly quickly Wednesday with temps well above freezing during the day (should help melt anything frozen)
  • A few showers move in on Thursday
  • It gets really cold again with widespread frost & freezes the second half of the week into the weekend
