Jacksonville, FL — It's terrifying to imagine as we're getting into the beach season.
The Fernandina Beach Police Department is investigating after a woman sunbathing at Seaside Park was run over.
Police tell us it happened at 1:39 PM, Tuesday afternoon, near Sadler Road. We're told the driver fled the scene immediately, despite being told by a witness that he had just run someone over.
Investigators say after speaking with at least three witnesses, they were able to identify the vehicle by the tag. When officers arrived to the home where the vehicle was registered, which was less than a mile away, they learned that the owner had parked his vehicle in the garage next door.
Police say the man refused to talk to police for more than an hour, but eventually agreed to come outside.
The man is still being interviewed, according to police, but they say they expect to charge him with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Michelle Arseneau at (904) 310-3217.
