FDOT is getting closer to completing another part of the East Beltway Express Lanes project

Jacksonville FL — The Florida Department of Transportation is making progress on the East Beltway Express Lanes project from Butler Boulevard to State Road 9B. FDOT says a new traffic shift is expected to be put into place sometime this weekend as you approach 9B on the East Beltway South. FDOT says there will soon be two lanes heading on to 9B and two lanes continuing on I-295.

Spokesperson with FDOT, Hampton Ray says this change is designed to help ease any traffic congestion that could build up in the area.

“For daily drivers who have to navigate that,  they should see an increase in traffic flow at that particular area because it will be able to eliminate some of the weaving that’s taking place there.” Rays says.

The shift is only part of what happening this week along the interstate. FDOT says there are nightly detours scheduled between Baymeadows and Philips Highway through this upcoming Sunday from 10 P.M. until 5 A.M just on the East Beltway South. FDOT says the closures are needed to install new signs along that stretch of road. Drivers will be detoured at the Baymeadows exit to Southside Boulevard and then to Philips Highway to get back on to the Interstate while the closures are in place.

All these projects are weather permitting.

FDOT says the overall project on the East Beltway should be completed by the end of 2019.
