Jacksonville FL — It's designed to help get you to the Mayo Clinic faster and quicker. The Florida Department of Transportation says construction on a new Diverging Diamond Interchange is scheduled to begin later this year. FDOT says the interchange takes you on the opposite side of the road briefly and then back to the right side of the road at the interchange. Despite this, FDOT says the interchange is safer.
“It reduces the conflict points from 43 to about 18, so that’s a significant reduction in conflict points.” Says FDOT spokesperson Hampton Ray.
Ray says the interchange is also designed to get you through the area faster by eliminating left-hand turns that slow you down.
In addition to the new interchange, FDOT says a new access road to the Mayo Clinic is going in on JTB westbound which is expected to reduce traffic at the new interchange.
