Jacksonville — Starting this morning the Florida Department of Transportation will be monitoring for potential winter weather conditions that could seriously impact all drivers in the Northeast Florida area.
We have reached out to FDOT for details on how they’re planning to keep drivers safe during the wintry weather, but they could not provide any in depth interviews.
In a statement, a spokesperson shared that “FDOT continues to closely monitoring potential winter weather conditions that may impact North Florida. As part of our standard operating procedures, FDOT is actively preparing for severe weather, with enhanced staffing, maintenance preparation and taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the traveling public. This preparation mirrors the proactive measures the agency takes for all severe weather events, including hurricanes and other storms.
FDOT Crews are prepared to respond as weather conditions evolve, with special attention being given to areas prone to freezing, such as bridges and elevated roadways. FDOT crews are ready to treat roadways as needed to prevent hazardous conditions and ensure safe travel.Whenever severe weather conditions occur, drivers are encouraged to use increased caution by reducing speeds, increasing following distances and never driving distracted.
FDOT encourages drivers to stay informed through FDOT’s FL511 system for real-time updates. Safety remains FDOT’s top priority and the agency is committed to keeping Florida’s roadways safe and functional for all motorists. Updates may also be found on FDOT’s social media sites.”
