Police have swarmed Shep's Discount and Salvage on Jacksonville's Westside as part of an ongoing investigation Tuesday morning.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement says Shep's Discount and Salvage is one of several search warrants being served by the Regional Operations Center special agents, as part of an ongoing investigation.
A spokesman tells WOKV News there is no threat to the community.
We have confirmed the National Insurance Crime Bureau- a non-profit that investigates different crimes relating to insurance fraud- is involved in this investigation. A Spokeswoman tells WOKV they are generally involved in large-scale investigations, but couldn’t comment yet on their specific role in today’s raids. The Spokeswoman could also not confirm whether they were involved in the primary investigation or on a secondary level, meaning it is not confirmed whether insurance fraud-related issues are the center of the investigation or not.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office tells us they cannot comment on any involvement in today’s investigation because efforts are being led by the FDLE. The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed they are involved in the investigation, but also deferred further questions to FDLE.
We’ve requested more information from the FDLE- including the nature of the search warrants and the scope of the investigation. A Spokesman tells WOKV they will send more information “when possible” but have nothing further to say at this point because it is an ongoing investigation. We’re told it could be weeks before more information is released.
Residents told CBS 47/Fox 30 Action News Jax that police were near the intersection of Shady Reach Drive and Crystal Springs Road. Reporter Russell Colburn saw a man being put in the back of a police cruiser, but FDLE said no one has been arrested yet.
The Florida Attorney General’s Office says they can “neither confirm nor deny” any involvement in today’s operations.
WOKV is continuing to dig for more information and will update you through the afternoon here and on the air at 104.5 FM.
