We've learned new information on the arrest of a Jacksonville man for a sex crime that happened in the Tampa area.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested 42-year-old Michael Scott Carter Monday on a charge of capital sexual battery on a victim under 12 years old.
FDLE says it started investigating Carter late in 2013 after receiving information regarding the sexual battery of a child. Investigators believe the crime occurred while Carter lived in Punta Gorda, Florida.
An arrest affidavit shows Carter's estranged wife tipped off police late last year when she learned of the abuse of an 11-year-old girl in 1999. The affidavit shows Carter was first investigated in 2009 during a national child pornography investigation. He was never arrested.
Carter was booked into the Duval County Pre-detention Facilty and is being held on no bond.
