Joe Murphy, Public Relations Manager at the Ritz Carlton, says Tolxdorf was very involved in the community and his loss came as a shock to the staff in Amelia Island.
Tolxdorf came to NE Florida from the Ritz Carlton in Singapore ten years ago.
Tolxdorf's family was overseas at the time of his death. They are now returning home to make funeral arrangements.
Tolxdorf was born in Berlin, Germany. As executive chef, he oversaw a team of 90 culinarians.
