Duval school board approves boundary changes for upcoming school year

Your child could see some big changes next school year.

The Duval County School Board voted to approve several changes Tuesday, which will change the boundaries of schools and shift the focus of others.

Oak Hill Elementary will be converted into an autism center, while current Oak Hill students would be rezoned to Cedar Hills Elementary, Gregory Drive Elementary and Jacksonville Heights Elementary.

Hyde Grove Elementary will undergo a full conversion to a pre-kindergarten through 2nd grade school. Students older than that will be rezoned to Hyde Park Elementary. Meanwhile, Hyde Park will transform into a grades 3- 5 school.

Wolfson High School will become a magnet school for international studies.  Students not wanting to go into that program would go to either Atlantic Coast High or Terry Parker High.

Meanwhile Ed White High School will be converted to a magnet school geared toward military leadership. Students can opt out of the program, but no boundary changes are currently in effect.

Duval school leaders say all of the changes are supposed to help the schools that have been underperforming or having low enrollment.
