Winter storm cancels dozens of flights at Jacksonville International Airport

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Severe weather sweeping across the northeast canceled thousands of flights, including 29 in Jacksonville as of Sunday evening.

According to FlightAware, there are also 31 delayed flights.

The severe weather also canceled more than 1,000 flights in and out of Charlotte and more than 300 in Atlanta.

More than half of the cancelled flights were from American Airlines.

Lisette Shumny was trying to get back home to New Jersey. She told Action News Jax’s Robert Grant that so far their flight was not impacted.

“For us, it’s been okay thank goodness. My sister flew a different airline and she was already postponed twice,” Shumny said. “We keep checking our phones and so far it’s okay.”

Snow did not impact northeast Florida, but there were high winds Sunday.

JIA reported wind topping out at 55 miles per hour just after noon which was the third highest wind gust ever reported in January.

The highest gust was 63 miles per hour and was reported in 2010.

Up to 12 inches of snow fell in North Carolina by noon Sunday. A majority of canceled flights were into and out of Charlotte.
