JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Englewood High School was placed on lockdown due to an “aggressive pit bull” on campus on Tuesday morning, according to Duval County Public Schools.
The school was placed on a Code Yellow lockdown, which means students and staff are “limited to essential movement only.”
DCPS said the dog actually exited Englewood High School’s campus around 8 a.m., and the school closed its gates and remained vigilant for the remainder of the day
Both the high school and elementary schools were able to dismiss their schools safely and without incident earlier this afternoon.

Here is the message that was sent to parents:
“Good morning Englewood High School and Englewood Elementary School families. This is Duval County Public Schools, and while I apologize for interrupting your morning, we have a unique situation and want to make sure that you are aware.
“Englewood High School is on a code yellow lockdown due to an aggressive pit bull seen on campus. Police are searching for the dog and patrolling the area.
“Families of Englewood Elementary, we wanted to make you aware so that you can take appropriate precautions on your way to school this morning. Police have been called to the area and animal control is being brought in. However, at this time, the whereabouts of the dog is unknown. Please take appropriate precautions, and we will call you back if there is any change in the situation.
