JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — DCPS is considering a plan to move out of its administrative building on the St. Johns River.
Assistant superintendent of operations Paul Soares briefed the school board Tuesday on a two-step plan to explore the move.

“We’re going to take a hard look at it. And if it’s feasible, and possible, we will,” said Soares.
DCPS is looking into the feasibility of the move, and is in the process of looking for vendors.
“We’ve developed a process of how we’re going to proceed with it by talking to several developers and consultants, by talking to JEA, which recently relocated their administrative building, and develop the plan for how we go about it,” said Soares.
DCPS is a government agency, so its building is not on the tax roll.

Soares says if DCPS finds a new home somewhere else, it could open the door for new development downtown on the St. Johns.
“I think there’s an interest within the community to potentially repurpose this property to generate tax benefits and a greater benefit for the city,” said Soares.
