Jacksonville FL — During a school Board meeting Thursday, The Duval County School Board delayed a decision on the three reopening options we reported on earlier this week. The delay comes after plenty of discussion of possibly pushing back the start of the new school year. Board Member Lori Hersey says delaying the start of the school year makes sense to allow for more teacher training on online learning.
“I think it does make sense looking at what the landscape of education may be like in the upcoming school year.” Hersey says.
No decision on pushing back the start of school has been made. The school board pushed back their decision on reopening plans to next Thursday, July 23rd. Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene says the date of July 23rd gives the district more time to have conversations with the Calendar Committee, but enough time to still meet the submission deadline set up by the state.
“Hopefully on July 23rd, we are presenting “the plan” and that is what we’ll be utilized moving forward. That would be our goal.” Superintendent Greene says.
She says whichever plan is decided on by the school board, it would still need to be approved by the state.
