Driver dead, passenger critically injured in San Jose-area crash

Jacksonville, Fl — A man in his 20s died in a high speed crash on Powers Avenue in the San Jose area of Jacksonville late Tuesday night.

According to JSO, a red 2009 Toyota Camry occupied by three people crashed into a tree around 10:15 pm. The driver was traveling at a high rate of speed, recklessly, when he lost control.

The driver was identified as a Hispanic man in his 20s. Two Black teenagers were passengers. One of the teens was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The other 16-year-old was not injured, and detained at the scene.

Police say the car had been reported stolen on Sunday from the Art Museum Drive area. And, police say there is evidence the driver was impaired at the time of the crash, which was the 9th traffic fatality in Duval County in 2022.
