Dog at Jax Humane Society waiting nearly a year to be adopted

Jacksonville, FL — For some animals, it takes longer to get adopted through no fault of their own.

That includes Zippo. He’s been in and out of the shelter going on a year.

The bully breed is believed to be around three years old.

He was adopted twice, but both times, it wasn’t the right fit.

Lindsay Layendecker with the JHS said Zippo is a sweet and special dog with lots of energy.

“It’s been tricky for us to find a home for him because he’s kind of like a big overgrown puppy,” Layendecker said.

Zippo is smart and knows several commands, including sit and shake.

“Even though he’s been here for a while, people think that’s bad. It’s actually good,” Layendecker said. “He’s had the benefit of being here with our staff.”

Layendecker said people tend to overlook him when visiting the shelter. She said his breed, age and size is a challenge.

Zippo is good with other dogs, but he needs a partner that can match his play style.

“Zippy is like a rough, rowdy player. He needs another dog who is willing to go toe to toe with him and have fun in that way,” Layendecker said.

Zippo is best in a home without cats.

Layendecker said she’s confident the right home is out there for Zippo.

“We really want him to find a place, you know, that he can call his own and find the best fit for him and the best fit for a family as well,” Layendecker said.

As a bonus, Zippo’s adoption fee has already been paid for by a sponsor.
