Jacksonville, FL — A man was shot dead by a Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy during a traffic stop on Blanding Boulevard late Sunday night.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, a Ford SUV was pulled over for a traffic violation on Blanding, south of Tanglewood.
When a backup K9 Deputy arrived at the scene, Deputies say the driver of the SUV produced a firearm, leading the K9 Deputy to open fire. The driver has not been identified.
Authorities tell Action News Jax the Deputy involved in this shooting was also on scene in the 2012 shooting death of Ted Tilley, who killed Detective David White.
“The deputy has been with Clay County Sheriff’s office for around 15 years. He has been a K9 officer for and extensive period of time and he is a well trained deputy,” Chris Padgett of CCSO said.
The FDLE is now leading the investigation.
