JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local construction worker, stabbed in the arm just last month, is now without a job.
Christopher Thompson said he was fired shortly after the stabbing incident at the construction site at Interstate 295 and North Main Street, adding insult to his injury.

However, when Action News Jax called his former employer, the Walsh Group, an HR representative said it was a voluntary termination.
Thompson said all this could have been prevented.
He told Action News Jax there were no detour signs placed at the construction site, resulting in him having to stand there and direct traffic.
Thompson said the driver, who police identified as 39-year-old Benjamin Kubi, pulled up to ask him a question.
“He stopped and asked about a sign or something, like really aggressive asking about a sign,” said Thompson. “I just told him keep going because he was holding up traffic.”
It was not long after that Thompson said Kubi got out of the car.

“I was confused,” said Thompson. “I was like why he is getting out, what is he trying to do to me.”
And shortly after that’s when Thompson was stabbed.
“After he stabbed me, I ran away,” said Thompson. “And if I would have stayed there he could have stabbed me more than just once.”
Now he is continuing to recover from his injury.

“All of my nerves in my arm like this whole area is numb, it’s very numb,” said Thompson.
Kubi was in court on Monday. He pleaded not guilty to all charges, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
