The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado sprung up on Jacksonville's Westside during Tropical Storm Colin.
The path of the EF1 tornado was about four miles when it formed around 3:30 p.m. Monday, according to a graphic released by the NWS Jacksonville office.
The tornado assessment team says it first touched down near Normandy Boulevard and Blair Road with sustained winds of around 40 miles an hour.
The storm quickly went up to EF-1 strength as it damaged fences and trees in the Crystal Springs area while moving north on Blair towards Interstate 10.
The sustained winds grew to around 100 miles an hour as the tornado crossed I-10 and flipped some empty trailers before eventually dissipating.
Luckily, nobody was hurt in the storm, but John Gaschler - a resident in that area - says everyone's now focused on cleaning up.
"Went out my front door and there it is," Gaschler added. "My tree's laying on my truck."
Bonnie McDowell's home on Glennfield Court was among the most damaged in the area. She's got a hole in her roof, a backyard porch on the verge of buckling and major water damage to her living room, kitchen and bedroom.
"I can't imagine it being anything else," she said when asked if she thought it was a tornado.
Some of McDowell's furniture blew into her neighbor's yard during the tornado as she, her daughter and her daughter's friend hid in a hallway inside her home.
Renee Hand says her neighbor's apartment on Angel Court also took damage during the tornado.
"It caused a window in the duplex next to me to be blown out, downed wires and a heavy tree limb to fall on a roof," Hand added.
