Chief William Townsend with Naval Station Mayport confirms the commissary is back open today despite the partial federal government shutdown.
Retired Navy Petty Officer Michael Conklin shops at the comissary and says he's glad its back open.
"The savings at the commissary on all produce, meats, deli, canned food."
Conklin says he and his wife were forced to shop at a local grocery store and spent way more money on groceries. He says he's also concerned about the workers who were temporarily out of work while the commisary was closed.
