Jacksonville, FL — Change is coming for Clay Electric Co-op customers.
Clay Electric says it has contracted Allegiant Utility Services to replace all of their existing electric meters across their 14-county service area, over the next 18 months.
The installation of the new meters will begin in January in the Orange Park district.
Customers will receive a notification by mail, so you can know approximately when your meter will be replaced. We're told customers do not need to be home for the new meter to be installed.
Clay Electric says the new advanced meters will help them better identify and pinpoint power outages, improve services for their members by providing detailed data about their energy use, and also improve efficiency by reducing their labor and transportation costs, as they will be able to remotely read the meters.
The meters will installed on the following estimated time frame:
Orange Park: January-September 2019
Palatka: September-October 2019
Salt Springs: October-December 2019
Keystone Heights: December 2019-February 2020
Gainesville: February-April 2020
Lake City: April-June 2020
We're told during the installation process, your power will be shut off for just a few minutes.
Clay Electric says the installers will not need to enter your home, they will not need any personal information, and they will not request any payment. Anyone that asks for any of these things could be part of a scam.
