Green Cove Springs pilot dies following mid-air collision with second plane

The Florida Highway Patrol says one pilot has died, after two planes collided in the air around the Haller Airpark in Green Cove Springs.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says one of the pilots, David Dollarhide, initially called in the crash, after bringing his plane down relatively safely. The person Dollarhide called then notified emergency responders, according to CCSO.

FHP says Dollarhide hit another plane while taking off from the Airpark. The second plane, piloted by 74-year-old Robert Wolley, went down “abruptly” following the collision, and FHP says Wolley has died.

One of the planes was located about a miles east of the Clay County Fairgrounds and the other was found about three miles southwest of the Fairgrounds.

Dollarhide suffered injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

The Florida Highway Patrol will be leading the investigation, in cooperation with the FAA and the NTSB.
