FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. — UPDATE | Nov. 17, 2021:
Action News Jax received the incident report from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
The Home Depot employee who was killed in the accident was 22-year-old Elijah James Chute. The report stated James was injured in an incident involving a semi-truck and a forklift.
James was pronounced dead at the Orange Park Medical Center.
The CCSO said Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was notified and investigated. They also said the case is active pending the medical examiner’s report.
ORIGINAL STORY | Nov. 11, 2021:
An employee at Home Depot died in an accident Tuesday, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said, “There was an accident that caused the death of a young man.” The accident happened at the store in Fleming Island, located in the Fleming Plaza off County Road 220.

The sheriff’s office has not released any other details. Action News Jax has requested the incident report but the sheriff’s office will be closed through Thursday for Veterans Day. We hope to have more details on Friday.
Action News Jax reached out to Home Depot for a statement. They shared the following:
“Elijah always had a smile on his face and was willing to jump in and help anyone who needed it. We’re heartbroken for the loss of our friend and fellow associate, and his family are in our prayers.”
