FHP: Man found dead in Green Cove Springs retention pond was reported missing 24-hours prior

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — UPDATE 9:30 p.m.:

The Florida Highway Patrol said the man found dead inside a submerged yellow Corvette was reported missing by family and friends just 24-hours earlier.

According to the crash report, the 58-year-old man from Green Cove Springs was driving on Russel Road and collided into a curb at the intersection of Henley Road. The car traveled over the curb and into a retention pond just west of the intersection, according to FHP.

Troopers said the car came to a final rest on its roof, immersed in the pond.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that a body was found Monday in a pond in Green Cove Springs.

The intersection at Henley and Russell roads has been partially blocked due to CCSO’s dive team investigating.

The Florida Highway Patrol is also on scene.

The Sheriff’s Office said there is no threat to the community, but to expect delays in that area.
