Clay County Schools holding 'First Book' event on Saturday, giving out 40,000 new books to students, families, and teachers

Jacksonville, FL — It's called the 'First Book' event.

Clay County Schools has received more than 40,000 new books, which will be given out to students, families, and educators on Saturday.

Clay County Schools tell us they worked with the Clay County Education Association and the Clay Educational Staff Professional Association to secure this donation from the non-profit organization 'First Book.'

Beginning at 9:00 AM, Saturday, October 20th, students and families will be able to start collecting books on a first come, first served basis. Each child will be allowed up to 10 books, if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Students will also have access to tote bags, bookmarks, and journals.

Clay County Schools Superintendent Addison Davis says he's excited to bring more than 40,000 books to the district's students for a second year.

"This initiative provides students the opportunity to connect with literacy at all times. Literacy is the foundation to learning and we must make that a priority in our school district and community," says Davis.

The First Book event is being held at Green Cove Springs Junior High School located at 1220 Bonaventure Avenue.

The event will run from 9:00 AM- 4:00 PM, Saturday, October 20th.
