Action News Jax learned that excessive rainfall caused damage to a section of Moody Avenue. And that rainfall damaged a box culvert, making the road unsafe for use.

The road is closed between Connie Circle and Meadow Drive.

A Clay County spokesperson told Action News Jax this is called a box culvert bridge, which means under the road there is a creek running through culverts.

We spoke to a Clay County resident who’s lived in the area for about 33 years.

“We need some new roads,” said Josh Biley.

The closure has added a 1.6-mile detour to Josh’s commute.

“It takes me a while to get out of my neighborhood,” said Josh. “Detours are terrible because there are not very many around.”

Josh said he now has to take Blanding Boulevard to get anywhere.

The county said the road is closed until further notice and they are actively working to get the repairs underway.

Detour details:

  • Northbound: Traffic will detour via Dennis Dr., Moody Ave., Londonderry Dr., SR 21, and Meadow Dr.
  • Southbound: Traffic will follow Meadow Dr., SR 21, Londonderry Dr., and back to Moody Ave.
