Jacksonville, FL — It's called 'The Filling Station.'
Clay County District Schools is announcing a new food truck that will travel to each high school in the district on a rotating basis beginning this upcoming 2018-2019 school year.
A district spokesperson says the meals served by the food truck will be available to all free, reduced, and paid students, and will also allow students to learn the culinary and business aspects of running a food truck. The district plans on having culinary students assist with menu development and food production.
We're told the food truck was paid for using federal funds generated by the Clay County District Schools Food and Nutrition Services Department, with all meals provided going back to that federal program.
While the district says its initial focus will be to serve the students of Clay County, it's likely the truck will be shared and used by other approved departments and for special events.
The district says it's currently in the process of acquiring the proper permits for the food truck, hiring and training staff, and working out the logistics of the operation, but they hope 'The Filling Station' creates a new level of excitement for students.
