The City of St. Augustine Beach — The Beach Art Walk will take place on Saturday, November 27, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. as the kick-off event for the City of St. Augustine Beach’s Light Up the BEACH! Season. Held in association with The Art Studio, artisans will showcase their work from Pope Road to A Street nestled against a backdrop of business and home-owners lighting displays on A1A Beach Boulevard, Pier Park and the Parkettes.
Artistry includes paintings, photography, prints, pottery, sculpture, jewelry and stained glass.
Locations include the Embassy Suites, Love Ya Mean It, Panama Hatties, Pier Park, Antonio’s, Café 11, The Sunshine Shop, Kookaburra and of course, The Art Studio.
According to Melinda B. Conlon, Communications & Events Coordinator for the City of St. Augustine Beach, last year’s event was launched to due to the cancellation of the St. Augustine’s Beach Pier New Year’s Eve Fireworks due to COVID 19. Needing to “do something for the community,” Beach Art Walk became a way to support local businesses and artists while remaining respectful of COVID 19 restrictions.
Working with Paul Slava who runs The Art Studio, local artists were placed in various locations, parkettes and businesses to afford social distancing while giving shoppers the ability to enjoy the outdoors and peruse the artisans wares.
The idea was a smashing success. Presenting a follow-up was easy.
“If you’re looking for a beautiful piece of jewelry or unique photography, Beach Art Walk’s a fun, unique shopping experience that you’re not going to find anywhere else,” said Conlon. “There are so many wonderful artists. The area’s colorful, festival lights gives it a great feel. It’s a fun event that’s a great way to start the LIGHT Up the BEACH! Season.”
“This Saturday, you can shop small at the big Beach Art Walk,” continued Slava. “Christmas is in the air, so celebrate with a holiday stroll down A1A Beach Boulevard and work off some of that Thanksgiving Day Feast!”
Slava encourages everyone to support local artisans by giving the gift of art.
“Take the stress out of holiday shopping,” he concluded. " We have no supply chain issues and no waiting for shipments. Buy local and support your local artists with the reward of something special for that special someone in your life! And of course, yourself!”
