Why did you decide to run for office: Jacksonville is a city on the rise! For it to reach its full potential, we need leadership. We need those who can build bridges in all parts of our community.

My father was an Army veteran and Baptist minister while my mother was a career social worker. For me, they modeled what a selfless leader looks like; a love of God, a love of people, and a heart to serve.

I took these traits with me throughout my career – first as a coach, then as an educator and school principal, and now as a Jacksonville City Councilman. I know that if we work together, we can build on our city’s success.

I’m excited about the opportunities we have in all parts of our city. Together we can continue our economic prosperity, build excellent educational opportunities for our youth, and ensure that every family feels safe in their neighborhood.

At-Large Council members have a unique opportunity to fight for every resident in our city. I look forward to sharing my campaign vision throughout our community and will work to earn your vote on March 19th.

What is the biggest problem facing Jacksonville as a city overall, and how specifically would seek to address that: As a City Councilman, my top priority has been and will continue to be public safety. We need to continue to partner with our Sheriff and the men and women of the JSO to make sure our streets are safe. The best thing we can do as Councilmembers is to make sure that the men and women of law enforcement are adequately funded so they can do their job. We also need to continue to invest in the Kids Hope Alliance so that we can play a positive role in the lives of your young people and their families.

What makes your constituents unique, and how would that influence your time in office: When I think of the people we serve, I think about the people who I meet every day in the community: The folks I've met at the 10 town halls I've hosted in the past 7 months, the wonderful hospitality I've received in visiting senior centers, and the people I have talked to when traveling throughout our neighborhoods. We are a great city – and we are great because of our people. I am so honored to represent them and hope to continue serving the next 4 years.

What would be your main budget priority for the upcoming fiscal year: Public Safety and Infrastructure

How do you define what you hope Jacksonville will be ten years from now: I've chosen to run for office because I want my 4 girls to choose Jacksonville when they start their own careers and families one day. I want Jacksonville to continue to be the first choice of the next generation. To do that, we need to continue our economic growth, build educational opportunities for our youth, and ensure every family feels safe in their neighborhood.
