City of St. Augustine seeking public input on confederate monuments

Locals gave public comment for hours about whether or not the Confederate Soldiers monument should stay in St. Augustine. The city manager says it should.

Jacksonville, Fl. — It’s been a hot-button issue and now the City of St. Augustine asking for the public input on how to add historical context to two confederate monuments.

The St. Augustine City Commission made the decision during an October 23rd meeting that the confederate monuments should remain, and that it should be accompanied by information that places it in historical context.

The city will be accepting applications for a contextualization advisory committee that would help add a more complete and fully accurate history of the period represented by the monument.

The scope of the committee’s work will be to identify gaps in Civil War history and create a continuum of the story of St. Augustine.

If you wish to submit an application, click here to do it online or in person. Applications must be received no later than 3:00 pm, Friday, December 29th.
