Jacksonville, FL — The City of Atlantic Beach and its police department have rolled out a new communication tool, in hopes of better connecting with residents.
Atlantic Beach Police Chief Michelle Cook announced a partnership with the SaferWatch app, Tuesday morning.
"The SaferWatch enables smartphone users to report suspicious activity and crime tips. The app also allows users to receive safety alerts and other information from the City of Atlantic Beach that will help keep our community safe and enjoyable,"says Cook.
She says the city hopes the app will empower citizens to report real-time crime information, including sending in photos and videos directly to their police dispatch center.
"Similar to see something, say something, SaferWatch encourages users to see something, send something," explains Cook.
But the city and police department want to make it clear, this app does not replace 911 for emergencies.
The SaferWatch app is free and can be downloaded from the App Store or GooglePlay. To learn more, you can visit coabalerts.com.
