Christmas Eve storm system threatens to bring damaging winds, followed by polar plunge

Christmas Eve storm system to bring threat for severe weather

Jacksonville, Fl — As nice as this week has been, it gets even warmer today. Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says we’ll climb into the 70′s under partly sunny skies.

But a threat is looming for Christmas Eve, with a polar front that brings strong storms by tomorrow afternoon.

“While not all systems are go for severe weather with this strong front, we have to carefully track this because it’s very dynamic, there is a lot of wind energy in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere, so I’m especially concerned about the potential for damaging winds with some of these showers and storms later in the afternoon on Thursday, tomorrow”, said Buresh.

Outdoor church services and other gatherings may need to change as the storms push through. Be sure to download the WOKV App today, and set your severe weather alerts, as the storms approach from the west.

Once the front is through we turn sharply colder. Temperatures on Christmas day don’t get out of the 40s and we could see the coldest Christmas Day this century. A widespread freeze is forecast for Christmas night and early on Saturday.

Sunday is going to start off cold but temperatures will climb to the low 60s.
