Child dies in overnight fire

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed the death of a child during a housefire overnight on Sunday, January 19.

JSO states that at around 3 a.m., officers from JSO and the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department responded to a house fire on the 2400 block of Canal Way.

Three people, a father and two children, were evacuated from the home; however, one of the children did not make it out of the home. They were pronounced deceased at the scene.

No foul play is suspected, however, there is still no information regarding this housefire. The State Fire Marshall is still actively investigating.

This was one of four fires that occurred overnight.
